Weapons in My Dietary Arsenal for Constipation: Gut Transit Time Session II

Dietary Arsenal Regular Maintenance

As stated in the GTT Session I post, I maintain my compromised gut (due to scare tissue as a result of abdominal surgery) by eating small portions, consuming mainly seafood and vegetables, eating probiotic foods and drinking lots of alkaline bottle water. However, from time to time, I still encounter colon difficulties.

Use Prayer to Address Any Issue in Life

Most importantly, because God’s Word and prayer are powerful, I use them to address every need in my life. The bible in Isaiah 53:5 says, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”

So, whenever I have an issue with my body, I proclaim the healing that’s mine because of what Jesus did for me on the cross. My health confession is -I’m healed from the top of my head to the souls of my feet- every cell, tissue, organ and organ system.

After implementing prayer continually, I do what I can to address colon concerns.

Dietary Arsenal for Initial Signs of Constipation

When I experience difficulty moving my bowels, I pull from a  bag of weapons.

  • I check to make sure I’m drinking enough water. Because taking magnesium help with bowel function, I ensure I haven’t forgotten to 250mg magnesium tablet along with a multi vitamin daily.
  • Taking probiotics is vital for gut health so I drink either Kombucha or Kefir or take an Align probiotic pill. Kombucha and Kefir are natural fermented products loaded with good bacteria. Among the two, Kefir is more potent.
  • I utilize colon message techniques to help move waste through my system (look at the previous post “Gut Transit Time I” for a video addressing colon massage).
  • After following the regimen above, if relief is not in sight, I limit solid food intake and began to drink homemade, green alkaline juices or fresh lemon and ginger juice.

Dietary Arsenal Progression of Constipation

If alleviation has not occurred, I employ one of the following:

  • I drink two cups of Smooth Move Herbal Tea (stimulant ingredient is Senna); use sparingly.
  • I continue to drink plenty of alkaline water.
  • I drink prune juice.
  • At this stage if my colon has not cleared, typically, I get a migraine. I use to think my migraines were a result of hormones but realized for me- they coincide with severe constipation.

Dietary Arsenal Severe Constipation

Sad to say, my colon seem to lock up during sever episodes, which can last up to 7 days. When I have severe constipation, I go on a liquid diet entirely.

The liquid diet is necessary because I’m not passing anything- not even gas. Any air comes out as a burp. Likewise, I notice my intestines feel inflamed and congested, as does my head. Literally, I will start expelling phlegm as if I have a cold. As stated earlier, at this time, the dreaded migraine is an un welcomed visitor that stays for at least 3 days.

From this point forward adherence to the following process is imperative:

  • Drinking green alkaline fresh juices is beneficial.
  • Staying hydrated with water is a must.
  • Eating soups and loads of watermelon is also important.
  • As stated above, taking a multi vitamin, extra vitamin C, tumeric and magnesium is crucial to compensate for limited nutrients.

After a few days of following this regimen, the inflammation in my colon reduces and the first sign of relief is -I will start to pass gas. Soon after, bowel movements begin to flow and eventually, my bowels will clear totally.

Exercise

Don’t forget to exercise to help keep your colon in tiptop shape. If rigorous exercise is not for you, brisk walking will do.
